"The cycle repeated
As explosions broke in the sky
All that I needed
Was the one thing I couldn't find
And you were there at the turn
Waiting to let me know
We're building it up
To break it back down
We're building it up
To burn it down
We can't wait
To burn it to the ground
The colors conflicted
As the flames climbed into the clouds
I wanted to fix this
But couldn't stop from tearing it down
And you were there at the turn
Caught in the burning glow...
You told me yes
You held me high
And I believed when you told that lie
I played soldier, you played king
And struck me down when I kissed that ring...
I built you up, but you let me down
So when you fall, I'll take my turn..." -- Burn it Down by Linkin Park
Something that's always creeped me out was that the Reapers' goal changed from wanting Shepard dead to wanting Shepard alive. Shepard was sedated for two days in the hands of indoctrinated scientists -- who knows what they did to her/him. Combined with reports of freaky noises on the Normandy, Shepard's decaying mental condition, hidden infrasound in certain ME3 audio files, and the scarily plausible Indoctrination Theory, Mass Effect from Arrival onwards becomes a frightening franchise. This was me trying to express that creepiness.
There's something mildly disturbing in doing this to my canon Shepard -- the one I've poured the most of my heart and soul into -- but it definitely adds to the creepiness. If it were your Shepard instead if mine this artwork might hit you a bit harder.
Take this as literally or symbolically as you please. A note on Shepard's eyes, though: you can't see it well, but the design of TIM's eyes was used. Why? As someone succinctly put it: not everyone who is indoctrinated has cybernetic blue eyes but every person who has those eyes is indoctrinated.
Thanks goes to the IT thread on the BSN that I've been lurking on for about three months now. Linkin Park's Burn it Down fits so well into ME3 (particularly Control and Synthesis endings if IT is true) that I was shocked the first time I heard it. The guitars even sound like Reaper horns! It was the primary inspiration song, while the other was Feel Something by Illy. If you want a kick to the gut, listen to Reignite ([link]) while viewing this -- the bitter irony is palpable.
And I also like this song))
Yeah, Linkin Park rock, and Burn it Down fits eerily well.
I am so sorry for dropping off the face of the earth (and for so long)! Real life has been crazy -- I even forgot dA even existed You are very welcome for the inspiration! My stupid browser isn't letting me open the pdf, which is really frustrating, but I'm already getting chills thinking about it. But I'll keep trying, because I really want to read it!
Here's a video that explains it and shows evidence (biased towards IT) [link] . If you're curious I'd suggest you pop into the IT Thread on the BSN and discuss with them, as they were the ones who found it
Oh BioWare, what great plan did you once have?
Here's hoping Leviathan DLC will clear some things up
You know, I've been fiddling with the idea of writing a one shot based off the Refuse ending with these pics for inspiration...Would it be OK if I do that and credit back for the inspiration?
I would feel honoured, to be honest. Go for it!
Also got my hopes up for EC even though I tried not to, but then they just shoved feels on a bunch of plot holes.
It also introduced new ones -- Harbinger being off in lala land was the one that annoyed me the most. Though if he gets distracted that easily, that could be the way to defeat him.
I guess it was good luck within bad that the Refusal ending in the DLC didn't result in Shepard becoming the Indoctrinated puppet of the Reapers. Its a moral victory, but a doomed one.
I found Refusal refreshing in being able to tell Starbrat to stuff it, but ultimately as unsatisfying as the other endings. Shepard's speech was inspiring, and Starbrat's "So be it" was telling. But at the end of the day it was just giving an official option to simply letting the timer run out in the decision chamber.
No - its not just Benezia. In the books, another was indoctrinated - Paul Grayson - he was a prisoner at first then he believed that he broke their control, but the Reapers were manipulating his desires through cybernetic implants and eventually, his personality was consumed.
I was expecting TIM to have some sort of kill switch he could use on Shepard. He struck me as the type who would have a specifically tailored weapon to use if Shepard ever tried to come after him, or even caused major problems for Cerberus. You don't make your enemy into a supersoldier and allow a possibility of them killing you (if that makes sense).
My bad -- I haven't gotten around to reading the novels or the comics yet. Thanks for clearing that up
Wow. it's a good wow. Just...speechless here.
Very Emotional, Very Well Thought Out. The Detail, The Sort Of Grittyness To Shepard With All That Dirt. Very Emotional.
Well Done Ellagne *Clap Clap*
